This isn’t ordinary ...this is Savannah !🍑
Time to cover another southern city ..Savannah, Georgia. As a part of my twin trip, Savannah was my next destination.
Savannah is a gorgeous gorgeous (yes I said 2 times) city with an absolutely beautiful European feel to it. The landmarks are amazing and the food scene is fantastic. The city is wrapped around by the majestic Savannah River (hence the name of the city) and good-looking bridges all around. All these factors make it a perfect tourist spot.
A little bit of history - The city of Savannah was founded in 1733 by General James Oglethorpe. A few decades after the founding of Savannah, it proved a strategic port city in the American Revolution and during the Civil War. Savannah also provides a great combination of weather and soil for growing crops.
About the Famous Squares - Savannah is beautifully architected by squares all over ...that is why... it is called as “First Planned city of America” and is well-known for its famous squares. (There are 22 squares in Savannah). These squares are admired for their aesthetic beauty, but they were originally intended to provide colonists space for practical reasons such as militiary training exercises.
Hop-on Hop-off- There are plenty of tour companies offering tours around Savannah to learn about the city but it’s been a while that we did a hop-on hop-off tour of any city so we chose a trolly bus tour to explore. There are 2 main companies offering all kinds of city tours - green trolly https://www.trolleytours.com/savannah )and white trolley https://www.oldsavannahtours.com/
The green trolley has a 9-mile circuit while the white trolley has a 4-mile circuit. Depending on your choice you can choose either. The trolley bus takes you around all the famous spots and gives you enough time to explore. (The last bus is at 5 pm)
We reached mid-day, grabbed our lunch, and took a tour around the city and without hopping off cause there were not enough buses for the day. But this gave us a good idea to plan the next day well :)
But First Food - #Tangynotes team is big on exploring the famous spots of the city we are visiting so food comes first. Hence, we had a running list of places we wanted to eat at
Treylor Park - There are 3 locations in Savannah that are hip spaces which offer a fun and unique food choices -> https://www.treylorpark.com

Just like Charleston -
Oddly enough I found tons of similarities between Charleston and Savannah. The two cities are very similar in many aspects. Both Savannah and Charleston are coastal cities, so both have nearby barrier islands with beaches that are a short drive away.
Just like Charleston, Savannah also has a #Citymarket which is a no-car zone and is full of novelty shops, ice cream parlors, pralines, and candy stores. The city market is also known as the art district of Savannah which usually has live music and a beautiful set up for a stroll around.
Just like the Charleston pineapple fountain, Savannah’s beautiful #ForsythParkfountain is one of Savannah‘s most well-known icons. Located on the north end of the park, the fountain is one of the most photographed places in Savannah.
Just like Charleston’s oak alley, Savannah has lush greenery and Spanish moss-draped live oaks all over near Forsyth park.
Just like Charleston's Folley beach and lighthouse, Savannah has a lively #Tybeeisland and a famous lighthouse. :)
Just like Charleston, Savannah also has #FriedGreentomatoes as the famous item on the menu of most restuatants.
Star Locations -
The star location of Savannah was the #Cathedral of St. John The Baptist which is a magnificent church built in 1873 which is opened for visitors. Many stories were told about the church (such as it was attempted to be burnt down by someone) by the tour guide of the trolley and we enjoyed listening to each one of them.
Another highlight of the city is the #Riverwalk. It has the most amazing feels and all the famous restaurants are located along the river walk. A stroll down Savannah's Riverwalk is not only pleasing, it's truly serene. It is famous for River street marketplace, souvenir shops, Savannah candy kitchen and is also the spot to catch Savannah’s riverboat cruise.
The river walk lights up at dusk and was a delightful experience to watch the cargo ships pass by around a pleasing sunset.
Savannah is scattered with lots of unique landmarks like - #TheWavingGirl statue, #ExchangeBell, #DavenportHouse, etc.. and there is a unique story and significance about each of those... For that make a trip to Savannah! lol
Pro-tip! - Usually, I don't recommend a specific hotel but Savannah's trip won't be the same without this recommendation. We stayed in Savanah at #TheWestinGolfResort which was across the river and had the best view of the Savannah River, River Market, and the bridge. The hotel has a swimming pool which is open till midnight and they offer a frequent ferry to cross the river. This place was an amazing stay. Woohoo!
Over and Out for June!
